The Big Bullshit Bill

Last week, I was off the grid, fishing deep in a mangrove jungle in Mexico. While I wasn’t fully plugged in, I was still paying attention. And let me start by saying this to my fellow Democrats: yeah, some of us still fish, hunt, drive trucks, and wear cowboy hats. Get over yourselves.

Now, let’s talk about what really matters: the bill Republicans sold out our future for. I’m deeply concerned about its impact on regular working people. This isn’t just bad policy, it’s a gut punch to the very people politicians claim to represent. But here’s the good news-this moment is also a huge opportunity for Democrats to stand up, speak clearly, and remind folks what we actually stand for.

Because we’re not for this garbage. We’re not for taking money and insurance away from working people while handing out tax cuts and loopholes to billionaires and corporations. Democrats are right to hammer home what this bill does, like kicking people off Medicaid , stripping access to the Affordable Care Act and hiking energy bills by up to $400 per year. But we also need to pivot. Let’s start talking about what we will do when we regain the House majority. Let’s talk vision.

Republicans are already trying to sugarcoat this mess. They’ll say, “Oh, we’re not taxing your tips or your overtime.” But that’s like sprinkling a little sugar on the edge of a shit sandwich and hoping you won’t taste what you’re swallowing. The so-called exemptions are capped. $12,000 on untaxed tips, and only for a few years. After that? Gone. Meanwhile, the tax cuts for the rich? Permanent. That’s how they play their game.

We can’t let them get away with it. We need to organize, educate, and tell the truth. Because this isn’t just about taxes. It’s about a pattern. This bill comes alongside the militarization of our streets, detention centers in the Everglades, and ICE agents picking up nannies in L.A. parks. It’s all part of a terrifying agenda.

If you're not alarmed yet, consider this: this bill would pump so much money into ICE that its budget would rival the Marine Corps. And we’re not just talking about trained officers; they’ll be hiring private contractors. ICE will become an armed militia. The consequences could be unprecedented.

But even despite all this, there’s hope. If we organize and tell the truth about this bill, we can win the midterms. We can take back the House. And we can hold those who pushed this nonsense accountable. That starts by helping people understand what's really at stake—and what’s really in this bill.

We also need to resist the divide-and-conquer tactics. Yes, this means talking to our Republican neighbors. There’s more that brings us together than what divides us. But online, there’s a whole industry profiting off hate, telling young men that it’s immigrants or Democrats who are ruining their lives. Truth is, it’s this economy and it’s bills like this one, adding $3 trillion in debt, that delivers nothing but hardship for working Americans.

The “Big Bullshit Bill” is real, and it’s dangerous. But hope is still on the horizon, if we’re willing to fight for it.
